Construction in the Lower Mainland

If you drive anywhere these days you'll see delays just about everywhere. The frustrating part of all of it is that your sitting in traffic any which way you go, all of the alternate routes are just as bad. The traffic has been bad all year, but it has even worse this fall. Here are ways to get a leg up and know which routes to avoid:

  • The British Columbia Highway News website lists the current road conditions.
  • The iMove website provides a map of all the major routes and indicates where there is construction. More importantly it provides up to the minute highlights of the high traffic areas.
  • The DriveBC website provides all transportation related news and updates in BC, including construction updates.

The worse is almost over though, ironically the BC government is trying use up the surplus that they have in the 2010 Construction Budget. Things should improve next year as the construction of Hwy-1 winds down. In the meantime, the construction industry has enjoyed a modest boost throughout the year with all of the excess work. I guess its pretty hard to look at the positives when we're crawling along on the highway to and from work.
